Unexpected Hero

Yesterday was chaotic.. and I mean chaotic, to the point where I almost had a nervous breakdown at work (..and not too long ago, it just happened).

Here’s how it all happened:

It was just a normal day at work… with a bit of a twist. I somehow ended up with the first credit of the day (Even though it didn’t go through, and the customer was irate cause of the policy), but then a few hours later… complete chaos. A lady (Who regularly comes in here) goes around shopping and all, when suddenly.. an alarm goes off. I got up (I was organizing some candy and snacks at the registers), and see the lady leaving out.. with a black bag and unpurchased merchandise, right in plain view! I tried to stopped her, but it was too late. Kinda knowing what to do (..and fearing that no one, but me saw what happened), I immediately called my assistant manager, and told her what happened. Two of my coworkers asked me what happened, and once I told them, I kept my eye out on the thief. Somehow, I caught her kinda ‘trying on clothes’ (Just putting it on her to see if it fits), and what happens next? She comes back, only this time… the black bag was empty! She looked like she was drunk, by the way that she was walking. Glad my coworker caught that.

As soon as she came through the door, I greeted her professionally, and with a smile. All seemed normal, but my coworkers and I still had to keep an eye out for her. The LP and assistant manager started to look through the camera, and watched the footage again, just to make sure that my suspicions were right. I was hoping that my eyes wasn’t playing tricks on me, and that the stuff she ‘stole’ was brought, or exchanged.

Nope…

About 10-20 minutes later, before I took my break, I decided to still be professional, and told the lady to have a great day. “Thanks, and I hope you have a good day too”, she told me. Now my anxiety started to rise, and I didn’t even realize it, until after it was all said and done (The verdict, I mean). After I got off of my break, I went back to the registers and got the line down. Now I feel my anxiety is starting to get to me. What was gonna happen next? Would I be wrong? What will the LP and assistant manager will say to me? Will I have to go to court to testify my story? Tons of thoughts swelled up to my head. Several minutes later, the verdict was in: The police took the lady away in handcuffs. The LP and assistant manager came to me and started to high five me for a job well done on catching the thief, who.. was indeed drunk, all that time (Another coworker who was nearby told me). In fact, she tried to steal something else in front of the other coworker, but the coworker caught her red handed. Let’s just say.. that I was not only in shock, but in total disbelief.. not only for the lady, but for the fact that all of this was happening right before my eyes. I never thought in a million years, I would actually catch a thief at my job. I still couldn’t believe it. The craziest part of it all was that what she said before I went on break. I never had that happened before… that’s what almost caused me to cry.

“I wanna go home. I wanna go home. I wanna go home…”

That’s what I kept on saying throughout the rest of my shift. It was that bad, almost to the point of the verge of a nervous breakdown. I had to go the back of the store a few times just to avoid that. I didn’t want my coworkers to know, or to even think that I was almost having an anxiety attack. Thankfully it was nearly empty throughout my shift. I did had customers, but I had to remain strong and pretend that nothing happened.. even though it did. I had to be my usual self.

After my shift was over, I had to talk to another of my coworker to help ease my mind of what happened earlier. Of course my supervisor and LP congratulated me on a job well done. Even though that was all said and done, it was still fresh in my mind. When I got home, I wanted to stop and let it all out (..and I did, for a minute or two). I had to consider this the absolute most chaotic shift of my life.

“You did it! You caught her! You’re a hero”!

…Even though I’m being considered a(n unexpected) hero, I don’t feel like I am.. especially since my anxiety got in the way…, but hey, I guess I can actually call myself a hero, cause there’s one thing that I actually did:

Overcame my anxiety through this crazy situation, and somehow had the confidence to pull through. When times are tough, you gotta pull through, cause at the end.., there’s gonna be a rainbow waiting for you.

Memorial Day Weekend

Well, I had an interesting, but very good Memorial Day weekend. I hope everyone had a safe and fun holiday!

Saturday, all I did was just.. work. Nothing more, nothing less. At least the good news is that I got out early.

Sunday was the usual.. church, watch some YouTube videos, slept (I really wish I had money to travel to downtown Chicago, but… that was a no-go.), and just prepared for tomorrow.

Memorial Day… it was quite interesting. My Mum and I went to the Memorial Day Prayer at our church. Just like Labor Day, it was packed. We all had to be there (Choir included) at 6 a.m (I dislike waking up early in the morning, but since my job has started scheduling me to working freight and Ship From Store fulfillment, I had to get up at between 3-4 a.m. It’s rough, but I’m starting to get used to it… SLOWLY).

20170529_061048

20170529_061336You can actually see people on their knees at the podium and walking back and forth, praying for peace, children, the nation, and much more. Even the Pastor was praying along with all of us. There were tears falling, cheering, clapping, singing, and dancing at the end of the prayer meeting.

Afterwards, my Mum and I went home, ate breakfast, and prepared for the Memorial Day BBQ at our job (..and I dozed off beforehand).

Several hours later, we headed up to the job, and had fun at the BBQ.

20170529_155731(These hamburgers are ready to go and be grilled)

20170529_155812(Almost all of the ravioli was gone)

There were desserts, chips, drinks, hot dogs, hamburgers, and of course, watermelon there. It was fun.

So that ends the tale of my 2017 Memorial Day weekend. It was slightly better than last year’s, I’ll say that. Hopefully next year I’ll be cooking and having a BBQ with my friends… and going to different places.

Free Comic Book Day

Yesterday was Free Comic Book Day, and I… I totally forgot about it until I saw my friend’s post about it on Facebook. So… after I realized it, I quickly looked up comic book stores in my area (Sadly the one near my house shut down last year or two… I can’t remember though). Turns out, the nearest one is just about no more than 20 minutes from me. I decided to go ahead and went to the shop. Here’s how it all turned out:

20170506_164541I seriously wanted to enjoy this day, since it always comes around the first Saturday of May. Also, this was my first time in a VERY long time since I went to a comic book (The last time I went there was when I was a kid).

20170506_164550I highly recommend this comic book store if you’re at or near Homewood.

20170506_170056Ah, the original Teen Titans. I’ll take them over the new Teen Titans any day.

20170506_170639

20170506_170742There was a photographer that wanted to take pictures for the Homewood and Flossmoor Chronicles. This guy was part of it. Also, I’m (Along with several others) part of the paper! It was weird (..but awesome), cause it just went from a conversation about me doing photography as a hobby, to being part of the local town paper! I was actually excited about it, and still am!

Easter (Resurrection) Sunday 2017

20170416_101937Churches are usually packed every Easter Sunday, or Resurrection Sunday.

20170416_102043

20170416_102830It’s so wonderful to see the young and old come together during Easter Sunday. Also, babies and children in their Easter suits and dresses… too adorable!

20170416_103350

20170416_103353The choir has the day off, but not the praise and worship singers. Somehow I got to be seated in the front, on the side.. which is pretty cool!

20170416_103359It was so packed, that they had to make room in the gym.

20170416_103628

20170416_111254You can’t really see the pastor, but he was up there at the cross, preaching today’s lesson.

20170416_112836It is time for the Passover offering.

20170416_114629

20170416_115507The end of the service. They actually had the virtual choir up there, which was pretty cool as well!

Don’t eat too much candy though, or you’ll end up with an upset tummy.

20170327_152501The food was great.

20170327_152615It was located at Veteran’s Park, bout… 5-7 mins from my house.

I just wished Monday would’ve been slower…, but it’s okay. I’ll see them again soon (..and making sure that Touré’s there too to meet them). I’m still excited to meet little Ryker next month.

Now time to patiently await for the arrival of my Godson.. or, Godnephew.

My First Wedding Shower

Before I begin, I would like to say something: Daylight Savings Time is finally here (Unless you’re in Arizona, of course). We ‘spring forward’ one hour, which means we lose one hour of sleep and so on. Hey, at least the good news is that it stays lighter, longer.

Anyway, Saturday was a day to remember. I went to my first wedding shower, and let me just say.. it was awesome, especially when the soon-to-be bride and groom, their friends, family, and I were cleaning up the mess after it was over. I gotta say, it was too funny.

Relieving Anxiety: Taking A Walk Through the City and Lake

20170218_170026

Today was a much needed day outside in the city, all thanks to my Zozo. 🙂

We spent most of our time in the Loop and Lake Shore Drive. We actually went to The Field Museum… a bit too late, cause the door closed at 5, and we got there two minutes before closing. We were kinda bummed, but we decided to go there again this summer.. much earlier than noted.

I ended up feeling really better after talking to Zozo. In fact, my anxiety went away as we talked and walked for the day. It was much, much needed.

20170218_160659

20170218_161353We ended up going through the play garden for the very first time. It look so much fun, but we ended up walking through it while playing Pokémon Go.

I found the one thing that makes my anxiety go away, and that is taking a walk downtown and on the Lakefront. Today proved just that, too. I love Chicago Loop, Lake Shore Drive, and most importantly, the love of my life.

A Night Out In Chicago: Emporium Arcade Bar

A few weeks ago, I went to a Royal Rumble event with Touré and my other buddies at this place called Emporium Arcade Bar. Let’s just say that I had a blast, since this was my very first time going to a place that has not only a bar, but also an arcade.

20170129_172702

20170129_172919We were watching the Royal Rumble in this spot. Despite the buffering and disconnections, it was very good. The people were nice and friendly as well.

20170129_173450While Touré, my buddies, and I waited for pizza to arrive, and for the the PPV to start, we decided to go ahead and play some arcade games and pinball. They have mostly old school games, such as Dig Dug (Which I wanted to play soo bad, but couldn’t, cause the machine was out of order), Tetris, Punch Out!, and more!

20170129_173612

20170129_173800

20170129_173803

20170129_173853I was very stoked to see a Metallica pinball machine there! Even though I suck at pinball, it was fun to play, regardless.

20170129_174200

20170129_174941

They also have a KISS pinball machine as well! Sadly that was out of order, so I couldn’t play it.

20170129_175736

Overall, the place was very nice! I’m looking to go there again in the near future.. this time, I will head to the other location (The one we went to that night is in Wicker Park. The other location is in Logan Square. That has a pool table and everything!). If you’re looking for a place to hang out on the North side of Chicago, then I recommend Emporium Arcade Bar. Be prepared though, as you will have to pay for parking. Luckily for us, we didn’t had to pay for parking, cause it was free until January 30th of this year. (We came there on the day before).

By the way, I want to mention that sadly, they don’t serve food there.. only drinks. You are more than welcome to bring your own food and drinks there. Also, if you want more information about the bar and what games and such do they have, here’s the link: http://emporiumchicago.com/

Christmas 2016

My Christmas was really wonderful this year. I got some presents from family members and my soulmate, like gift cards, this skirt that my Mum gave me:

20161225_112914

…Games, toys, and more!

IMG_20161225_163931

My family came by, and so did my aunt’s pups. In fact, I caught two pictures of Suki, the youngest pup:

20161225_124037

20161225_150949 Somehow when my aunt opened up her gift that my Mum gave her (Which were the slippers), Suki started to chew on them like it was one of her toys. It was funny, nonetheless.

I hope everyone had a great Christmas this year! Thank goodness 2016 is almost over. I wonder what 2017 will bring in store… hopefully something good.

P.S., R.I.P to all of those celebs who died this year, including Carrie Fisher and few others who died a few days ago.

Pre-Christmas Madness: Downtown Chicago Style

The following pictures were taken in Downtown Chicago, at night. Even though it’s still a bit too early to be putting up Christmas decorations at this time, it’s still pretty cool to walk around the city and just take a peek at what type of decorations they put this year.

P.S., Happy Veteran’s Day! Also, next Friday is the day I turn 27. In all seriousness…

I’m ready.
